President Jokowi Orders Speedy Search Operation for Victims, Black Box of Sriwijaya Air SJ 182
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered to intensify search for victims and black box of the Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 aircraft crashed in the Thousand Islands waters.
“The President ordered me to quickly coordinate the search operation for the victims’ bodies and black box. God willing, we will carry out the order and this afternoon, I am asked to go to Tanjung Priok to make sure it is carried out properly,” Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said in a press conference at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Tuesday (12/01).
President Jokowi, the Minister said, is deeply concerned about the tragedy. “The President has called me more than five times to discuss the matters. I also report back twice daily to the President,” he said.
The Minister also stated that Ministry of Transportation, the Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) – the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT), and other stakeholders establish a good collaboration in this search operation.
President Jokowi also ordered to properly coordinate services for victims’ families. “To provide assistance so that the families can obtain their rights properly and immediately,” he stated.
In this regard, the Minister stated that he had summoned Sriwijaya Air and state-owned insurance company Jasa Raharja.
“We would like to thank the President who has given us moral support so that we can carry out these tasks well, serve the victims’ families well and improve everything in flight services for the better,” he said. (FID/UN) (FI/MMB)
