President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered the COVID-19 Task Force to optimize the role of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) on the homecoming of Indonesian migrant workers, Head of the COVID-19 Handling Task Force Doni Monardo has said.

“The COVID-19 Task Force has received orders from the President to optimize the role of the TNI and Polri with the Regional Military Command in all regions as the institution in charge,” he said after attending a Limited Meeting on Handling of COVID-19 Pandemic, Monday (3/5) in Jakarta.

Regarding the return of migrant workers, the Regional Military Command will work together with the Regional Police Heads in their respective regions to integrate all central agencies in the regions, namely the Immigration, the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), the Manpower Office, the Port Health Office of Ministry of Health (KKP Kemenkes) as well as the Customs.

“Everything is under one command as it is easier for us to exercise control over all migrant workers who return to the country, including preventing violations committed by a number of persons at the airport or at the time of departure from the airport or from the sea port to their destinations,” he added.

Doni further said that there are five top provinces that will welcome the migrant workers arrival, namely East Java, West Java, Central Java, West Nusa Tenggara and North Sumatra provinces, including several other provinces. (TGH/UN) (EST/MMB)
