President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (12/08) ordered the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) personnel to assist in the removal of debris from the damaged houses due to Cianjur quake.

“I urged the TNI and the Polri to start deploying personnel in the Cugenang area. We also need to mobilize the community to help clean up the debris on the ground. I hope, the area has been cleared within a week and house reconstruction has been underway,” the President said in his directives to Military Commander III/Siliwangi Maj. Gen. Kunto Arief Wibowo and Chief of West Java Regional Police Inspector General Pol. Suntana at the Cianjur Earthquake Command Post, Cibulakan village, Cugenang district, Cianjur regency, West Java province.

“We will do, Mr. President,” said both the Military Commander and the Regional Police Chief.

During the distribution of stimulant assistance for affected houses in the 300th Raider Infantry Battalion, Karangtengah district, Cianjur regency, the President also encouraged the communities to immediately start the process of reconstructing their damaged houses.

According to the President, residents can start by cleaning up the ruins of their houses with the help of the TNI-Polri, if necessary.

“Together, we need to clean up the ruins right away, get started, and you will be assisted by the TNI and the Polri. If necessary, they will also assist with the cleaning and the construction,” he said.

On that occasion, the President also underscored that the Government is providing assistance for the construction of quake-affected houses.

“For heavily damaged houses, the Government will provide assistance worth Rp60 million, while Rp30 million for moderately damaged houses, and Rp15 million for lightly damaged houses,” he added.

“We thank you, Sir,” one of the residents said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RIF/MUR)
