Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi has announced Ministry of Transportation has been ordered by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to manage flight slot time for domestic and international flights.

According to Budi, the percentage of domestic flights in 2022 reached 71 percent, while the percentage of international flights reached 33 percent.

“Therefore, the Ministry is assigned to improve slot time for both domestic and international flights,” the Minister said in a press statement after attending limited meeting on flight slot policy at Presidential Office, on Monday afternoon (12/26).

The Minister also explained that until today, 166 requests to add slots have been made by domestic and international airlines.

However, he added, President Jokowi has given directives to carefully manage flight slot time in order to maintain productivity and efficiency.

“President Jokowi has stressed that although many requests have been made, we need to manage it carefully by considering productivity of the connectivity, whether it is efficient or not,” he said.

Budi added that based on the directives given by the President, the Ministry will continue to improve the capacity of the airports in order to provide good services.

“We will make sure there will be no excesses due to delays, such as delays of luggage or delays caused by overcapacity problems, and so on,” he said.

The Minister further said that concerning requests on international flight slot during 2023 summer and winter, the Ministry will manage and select flights that are deemed productive and those that are not.

“We will ensure consideration for productive flights, but for non-productive flights, the President has instructed not to give them priority,” he remarked. (MAY/DNS/ST) (AW/EP)
