President Joko (Jokowi) Widodo said that Pancasila (state ideology) is a blessing from the Almighty God for Indonesia, achieved through contemplation, struggle of thought, and inner clarity of the founding fathers of Indonesia.

“Pancasila serves as the philosophical foundation of the state, which is the foundation of a united, sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at the Pancasila Day Ceremony at the Pancasila Building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Central Jakarta, Friday (1/6) morning.

It is our duty and responsibility, the President asserted, to ensure that Pancasila is always present in every corner of life, heart and mind.

The President emphasized the importance of the Indonesian nation to strengthen the spirit to unite, share, and achieve.

Given Indonesia is a pluralistic nation comprising 714 tribes with more than 1,100 local languages ??living on more than 17,000 islands, according to the President, the spirit of unity is a major pillar in the life of nation and state.

“We must constantly unite to strengthen the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, Unity in Diversity. We must unite in our efforts to become a strong nation, a great nation, and a nation of leader,” the President said.

While the spirit of sharing among the youth in order to create mutual prosperity and progress, the President went on to explain, is also a must.

“We must share by strengthening the ethos of caring, compassion, and mutual respect with empathy,” the President said while adding that we should use this blessed holy month of Ramadan as a momentum to strengthen the ethos of care and sharing.

“The spirit of gotong royong (collective work) which is the noble culture of the nation should continue to be instilled as a major energy source of Indonesia to reach social justice for all people,” the President said.

With the spirit and togetherness, the President believes, Indonesia will be able to excel to win the competition. He asks all elements of the nation to be confident and dare to compete in an increasingly open and competitive world life. “We must strengthen the collective power of the nation and should not waste energy in disputes and divisions. We must make a big leap to improve the quality of superior and strong resources,” the President said.

In addition, the President believes that the spirit of achievement is firmly instilled in the heart of Indonesian athletes to raise the Red and White flags at the Asian Games and Asian Paragames to be held this year. “I believe this spirit of achievement is also burning in all walks of life and in all kinds of professions to make Indonesia as a developed country, a baldatun toyyibatun wa rabbun ghafur (fertile, prosperous, just and safe) country,” the President said.

The President called on the people to make the commemoration of Pancasila Day on every 1 June as moment of reminder, moment of spur, and moment of actualization of Pancasila values. “Let us continue to honor the noble heritage of the founding fathers for the betterment of the nation, and at the same time for the contribution of Indonesia to the world community,” the President concluded.

Also present at the ceremony were Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Bambang Soesatyo,  Senior Advisor of the President’s Working Unit for the Implementation of Pancasila State Ideology (BPIP) Megawati Soekarno Putri, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, a number of Working Cabinet Ministers and Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan.
