In observance of the 74th anniversary of the proclamation of Indonesian independence, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on early Saturday (17/8) morning presided over a ceremony to pay tribute to independence heroes at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta.

President Jokowi as the inspector of the ceremony expressed his highest respect and appreciation for 10,026 heroes who served and fought for the triumph of Indonesia.

The President, accompanied by First Lady Ibu Iriana, also offered prayers and paid tribute to unsung heroes from all corners of Indonesia.

“We express our utmost respect and gratitude for the sincerity and sacrifice of the heroes in the struggle for the victory of the nation. We pledge and promise that  the struggle of the heroes is also ours and the path of worship is ours too. We pray that the spirits of the heroes will be received by God the Almighty in the best possible place,” the President said. (BPMI/ES)
