President Jokowi Pays Tribute to Nation’s Heroes at Kalibata Cemetery

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday (08/17) led a ceremony to pay tribute to the nation’s heroes at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, Jakarta.

In his remarks, President Jokowi expressed his highest respect for the 10,257 heroes who have served the nation and sacrificed their lives for the country.

The President said that among the heroes resting in peace in Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, 9,241 were members of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (Polri), 904 were members of Fighter Groups, 69 were national figures, and 43 were unsung heroes.

On that occasion, the President also paid tribute to unsung heroes from all corners of Indonesia and prayed that God the Almighty grant them His grace.

“We express our utmost respect for the sincerity and sanctity of the sacrifices of the heroes for the homeland and the nation. We promise that their struggle is our struggle and their devotion is ours. We pray that the spirits of the heroes will be accepted by God the Almighty,” the President said.

Afterwards, all participants attending the ceremony paid tribute in a moment of silence followed by prayer led by Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RI/MMB)
