President Jokowi Performs Eid al-Adha Prayer at Yogyakarta Palace

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and the First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi on Thursday (06/29) performed Eid al-Adha prayer in the courtyard of the Yogyakarta Presidential Palace.

The prayer was led by Imam Jauhar Mustofa who is the Head of the Islamic Religious Affairs Division at the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Yogyakarta Regional Office.

After the prayer, Jauhar Mustofa, who also acted as khatib, delivered his sermon with the theme “Spirit of Sacrifice and Obedience of Prophet Ismail”. In his sermon, the khatib called for emulating the obedience and sincerity of prophet Ibrahim and prophet Ismail.

Jauhar also conveyed the lessons learned from Eid al-Adha and the sacrifice of prophet Ibrahim and prophet Ismail. The Imam called for maintaining integrity in worship, obeying Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala and His Messenger, increasing faith and piety, and helping the poor.

“Our wealth is a gift from our God and we must manage and utilize it for the benefit of all Muslims,” Jauhar remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RI/LW)
