President Jokowi Performs Eid Prayer at Yogyakarta Palace

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo Monday (05/02) performed Eid al-Fitr 1443 Hijri prayer in the yard of the Yogyakarta Presidential Palace, also known as the Great Building (Gedung Agung), in Yogyakarta province. 

The Eid prayer – which was participated by a limited number of participants – was conducted at 06.28 Western Indonesian Time and led by Masmin Afif, Head of Ministry of Religious Affairs’s Yogyakarta Regional Office.

In his sermon under the theme of “Social Solidarity amid Pandemic”, Masmin said that Eid al-Fitr is a momentum to promote humanitarian solidarity by caring, sharing, respecting each other as well as tightening communal bonds (silaturahmi), forgiving each other, and implementing noble values in daily life.

Masmin also expressed his hope that this year’s Eid al-Fitr can be a momentum that can lead the Indonesian people to be a society that has solidarity amid pandemic so that a respectful, dignified, prosperous, civilized society under the Almighty God’s ridha (acceptance) and maghfirah (forgiveness) can be achieved.

After performing the Eid prayer at around 07.00 Western Indonesian Time, President Jokowi and the First Lady returned to the Gedung Agung while greeting a number of participants. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (AP/EP)
