President Jokowi: PM Li Keqiang Committed to Increase Indonesian Palm Oil Export Quota Up to 500,000 Tons

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said that with a population of 1.37 billion people, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is a huge market for Indonesian commodities and products.

Therefore, the President stressed the importance of increasing Indonesia’s export to the country.

“Prime Minister Li Keqiang supported to  export more commodities from Indonesia such as palm oil products, swallow nest, coffee, cocoa and fruits, for example mangosteen, dragon fruit, as well as snake fruit (salak),” President Jokowi said in a joint press statement with the Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang, at Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Monday (7/5).

According to President Jokowi, PM Li Keqiang specifically committed to increase Indonesia’s crude palm oil export up to 500,000 tons to China.

President Jokowi also said that the meeting with the Prime Minister discussed the enhancement of mutually beneficial cooperation for both countries. In addition to that, both leaders also discussed the enhancement of cooperation in economic sector, including trade.

“As two big countries, I also stated that the partnership between Indonesia and China should be beneficial for peace, stability, and welfare of the world, based on respect for the law and international norms,” said President Jokowi.

Regional Issues

Besides bilateral issues, according to President Jokowi, they also discussed issues in the region, as well as in the world.

For regional issues, President Jokowi stated that over the past 50 years, ASEAN has contributed significantly in creating peace and stability in Southeast Asia. “We need to maintain this achievement, and even enhance it,” the President said adding that Indonesia asked China’s support for Palestinian issue.

“Indonesia will continue to be at the forefront of the Palestinian struggle. And PM Li Keqiang gave full support to the struggle of Palestinian people,” President Jokowi emphasized.

The President also appreciated the support and participation of China in the 2018 Asian Games next August.

“Let us make the 2018 Asian Games not only as a sport event, but also as an Asian Energy for our peace and friendship,” President Jokowi concluded.
