President Jokowi, PM Mahathir Discuss Ways to Strengthen Indonesia-Malaysia Relations

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo accompanied by the First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo on Friday (29/6) at Bogor Presidential Palace welcomed Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and his wife Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali during his official visit to Indonesia, which was the first official visit after he was elected as Malaysian Prime Minister for second time on 10 May 2018.

On that occasion, President Jokowi invited his Malaysian counterpart to go to a square for welcoming ceremony. After 19 times of cannon were fired and both countries national anthem were played, President Jokowi and the Malaysian PM were walking for inspection parade and shaking hands with children on traditional outfit, then followed by planting Meranti tree and photo session.

President Jokowi and PM Mahathir Mohammad are set to discuss measures how to strengthen relations between the two countries, among others on trade and investment, recruitment and protection of Indonesian worker in Malaysia, cooperation against discrimination of palm trees, as well as ways to find solutions to border issues between the two countries.

Both leaders ended their meeting with a press conference and a Friday prayer at Baitussalam Masjid, Bogor Presidential Palace, on Friday (29/6) afternoon. (DID/ES) (EPI/EP/Naster)
