President Jokowi, PM Marape Meet for Bilateral Meeting

On the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (09/07) held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea (PNG) James Marape.

In his opening remarks at the meeting, President Jokowi expressed his gratitude for PNG’s support for Indonesia’s sovereignty and integrity during the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Summit held in Port Vila, Vanuatu, on August 23-24, 2023.

The Head of State also lauded the increase in economic activities between the two countries following  the inauguration of Skouw (Indonesia)-Wutung (PNG) border and opening of direct flights from the PNG’s capital Port Moresby to Denpasar in Bali, Indonesia.

On that occasion, Prime Minister James Marape extended his congratulations for the success of Indonesia in chairing ASEAN and organizing the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta.

“I would also like to congratulate you on the success in hosting the ASEAN Summit. During APEC, the G20, and now ASEAN, Papua New Guinea stands with Indonesia. We are very proud of our closest neighbor,” PM James Marape said.

Accompanying President Jokowi in the bilateral meeting were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi, and Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.
