President Jokowi Praises Police for Arresting Suspects of Novel Baswedan Attackers

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo praised the Indonesian National Police (Polri) that have arrested the alleged perpetrators of acid attack on Novel Baswedan, an investigator at anti-graft body Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The President invited all parties to pay attention to the development of the case.

“This is the beginning of the investigation process. (The Polri) have found the suspect. We will continue to follow the process to meet public demand,” the President told the reporters during his visit to the Old Town Area of Semarang, Central Java, Monday (30/12).

Regarding the request to form an Independent Team in investigating the case, President Jokowi said that the most important thing is to ensure that the handling of the case is conducted properly.

“The most important thing is we should ensure that the incident does not happen again,” the President firmly said. He also called on all parties to give the Police a chance to unveil the motives of the crime.

For the record, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (Kabareskrim) of the Polri, Police Commissioner General Listyo Sigit, on Friday (27/12) had announced that the Polri have arrested two alleged perpetrators of acid attack on Novel Baswedan.
