President Jokowi Praises Polris Performance

President Joko Jokowi Widodo, on behalf of the State and the Government, expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian National Police (Polri) for the devotion of all Polri personnel who worked in big cities and served in the corners of the country in maintaining public security and order, so that the results are visible and real.
“For example, during the holy month of Ramadhan and Eid al-Fitr this year, the public security and order is very conducive. The whole community feel safe, the traffic during mudik (an annual exodus ahead of Eid al-Fitr) was also smooth, traffic accidents dropped drastically, and the price of basic needs was also stable,” President Jokowi said in his speech at the 71st Anniversary of Bhayangkara 2017, at the National Monument Square, Jakarta, Monday (10/7) morning.
President Jokowi considered that at the age of 71, the Polri has shown dedication, loyalty, and high integrity to support the realization of national development and economic equity.
The President went on to explain that Polri has been able to realize a stable and conducive public security and order, successfully prevent conflict, guard demonstrations, handle terrorism, combat drugs, suppress conventional crime rates such as thuggery and street crime as well as realize the security, safety, order, and the smoothness of traffic.
In addition, according to the President, the Police has also managed to secure political agenda, that is, the 101 simultaneous regional elections in 2017 so that political joy can be realized in the regions that held the regional elections.
Therefore, according to the President, not surprisingly, as shown by the results of credible agency surveys, public confidence in the Polri is increasing. Public confidence in the Polri is getting stronger. The Polri is increasingly loved by the people. “Therefore, I congratulate the whole family of the Polri. All of that is the result of hard work that has been done by the Polri during this time,” the President said.
Community Support
President Jokowi reminded all that the Polris success is inseparable from the assistance, support, and cooperation with all components of the state and elements of society. Therefore, President Jokowi also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all elements of society, along with related institutions that have supported the implementation of Polris duties.
In the future, President Jokowi further explained, the support of all elements of the nation is increasingly needed, given the challenges facing the Polri will be more severe.
The phenomenon of globalization, democratization, and the advancement of information technology, the President said, must have affected the public security and order, such as the increasing of transnational crime, particularly terrorism which becomes parasite for the unity and integrity of the nation.
The President mentioned that terrorism has taken many innocent victims, including a minor, named Intan in Samarinda. Terrorism, the President further said, has also claimed the lives of the Polri personnel, such as the case of bombing that occurred in Sarinah and in Kampung Melayu.
In addition to terrorism, President Jokowi reminded all that drug dealing, human trafficking, weapons smuggling, and cybercrimes could damage and threaten the future of the Indonesian nation. Therefore, they must be combated.
In addition, the potentials for horizontal and vertical conflicts with primordial issues, such as tribal, religious, and racial issues will also increase. To that end, the Polri needs to take anticipatory steps to prevent the stability of public security and order and our nation’s energy is not wasted for the things that are not productive, such as utterance of hatred, slander, and provocation.
The President also requested that the Police also need to prepare to secure the 2018 simultaneous regional elections, Legislative Election, as well as the 2019 Presidential Election so that the potential for existing vulnerabilities does not develop into widespread social conflict.
“In the midst of all these developments, in the midst of an attack on the Polri recently, the Polri must continue to maintain the values ??of diversity that has become the nature of the Indonesian nation. The Polri must continue to maintain the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation. For this reason, the Polri must maintain internal solidity and always act professionally,” the President said.
