President Jokowi: Projects on Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing’s Contract will Begin Tomorrow

President Jokowi gave instruction when signing action contract at the Pendopo Room of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, Jakarta (6/1)

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday morning (6/1) attended the launching of the 2016 activities contract signing of the Ministry of Public House and Public Housing, at the Pendopo Room of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, Jakarta. Starting his remarks, President Jokowi said that after the contract signing today in Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya, Banjarmasin, Manado, and Jayapura, the works will be started tomorrow.

“It means if the contract is signed today, the works must be started tomorrow,” President Jokowi said.

This pattern, according to President Jokowi will be pushed and applied to all ministries. “The contracts must be started at the beginning of January and the works must also be started at the same time,” the President added.

“The projects that would be carried out at the beginning of this year, according to the President, will boost and give stimulus to the economic growth. Moreover, the ASEAN Economic Community (MEA) will begin this year.

By entering the competitive era of the ASEAN Economic Community (MEA), the President hopes the implementation of infrastructure projects of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing will first; open an enormous number of new jobs.

“I entrust the Ministry to arrange the projects to absorb many labors. It means we carry out labor intensive projects,. However, we realize that we must use technology and heavy equipments,” the President firmly said.

The second point that was delivered by the President is the signed contract packages must use local contractors. “If they can not 100 percent use local contractors, make it to 90 percent. I already saw the contract and know that the projects which have budget under Rp 50 billion is more than the projects with budget over Rp 50 billion. It means local contractors could participate in the project and get the contract,” the President added.

The third point from President Jokowi is instructing contractors to use local contents. “We can not keep importing. It must be stopped. From now on, please use local contents only,” the President firmly said. (FID/RAH/EN) (RAS/MMD/YM/Naster)
