President Jokowi: Promising Prospects for Indonesia’s Defense Industry
Indonesia’s defense industry holds significant potentials for future development, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.
“Our defense industry offers promising prospects and must be developed since there are high global demands, including those related to bullets, vehicles, and weapons,” the President said in his statement at state-owned defense company PT Pindad (Persero) in Malang regency, East Java province, Monday (07/24).
According to the President, the world is facing a shortage of bullets.
“On every visit to other countries, they always ask questions about bullets. The world is indeed short of bullets,” he said.
To that end, the Head of State claimed he had ordered his administration to seek partnerships with other stakeholders so PT Pindad (Persero) could proceed with the defense equipment more quickly.
The President also pointed out the company’s production recorded an increase after receiving state-capital injection worth Rp700 billion through the state equity participation (PMN) scheme.
“PT Pindad could only manufacture 275 million bullets prior to the capital injection. Meanwhile, production increased by 415 million bullets following the PMN scheme,” the President said, adding that the Government will gradually relocate the PT Pindad’ factory in Bandung to an industrial area in the West Java town of Subang.
“We will relocate the factory to a larger area of land for the development of PT Pindad since the SOE has excellent prospects,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RIF/EP)
