President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo promoted equality, collaboration, and inclusiveness for global cooperation during the G7 Hiroshima Summit – Working with Partner Session, at the Grand Prince Hotel Hiroshima, Japan, Saturday (05/20).

On that occasion, the President delivered messages on behalf of the Global South.

Working together means equality. Working together means inclusiveness, and we can only work together if we understand each other, according to President Jokowi.

“The question is whether we already developed and shared equality, inclusiveness, and understanding as our common spirit. We must dare to speak as it is that there are many things that must be improved,” he stated.

He also went on to say that the pandemic has taught the world about the importance of involving many states in global supply chain. Therefore, he called for the end of monopoly.

“This discriminative policy against commodities of developing countries must come to an end. The rights to development must be respected,” he added.

According to the President, this is the end of the era for limiting the Global South countries only as the exporters of raw commodities since this is not colonial era anymore.

“Do you think it’s fair for Indonesia as a country with abundant natural resources not being able to enjoy added value from its own resources? For not being able to process the resources in very own country?”, he asserted.

He added that more than 270 million of Indonesian population is striving to maintain peace, democracy, economy, and prosperity in Southeast Asia and the Asia Pacific region. Thus, Indonesia is open to enhance equal cooperation which is mutually beneficial for both parties.

“I hope the G7 countries can be partners for downstreaming of industrial process. It’s the time to establish an organization like OPEC but for nickel and palm [oil],” he remarked.

He also invited the G7 to collaborate and address that matter because collaboration is all the world needs. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RAS/HD)
