In a bid to improve air transportation connectivity to support economic activities, especially trade in goods and services, investment, and mobility of people from both countries, the Government has agreed to ratify Air Transport Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on Scheduled Air Transport.

Regarding this matter, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on 3 July 2019 has signed Presidential Regulation Number 44 of 2019 on Ratification of the Air Transport Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on Scheduled Air Transport. The regulation came into force on 8 July 2019.

Previously, the air transport agreement was signed on 18 February 1993 in Jakarta by representatives of both governments to provide a legal basis for civil aviation regulation between Indonesia and Turkey.

According to the agreement, after the ratification, each party shall have the right to appoint one airline company from its country to carry out international air transportation services from one country to another and to withdraw or alter the appointment of the airline.

Article 5 of the agreement also stated that “Each Party shall have the same and fair rights and obligations in carrying out air transportation services between and outside the territory of the Parties, the number of flight frequencies and capacities, including flight schedules, and shall obtain the approval of the respective civil aviation authority of each Party”.

In addition, both Parties shall agree that the designated airlines operating on international routes shall be exempted from all duties, taxes, fees, and checks, and other costs of commonly used equipment,  supplies of fuel and lubricating oil, including goods sold in aircraft when the item is in the territory of another Party, on condition that the equipment and supplies remain in the aircraft. (Pusdatin/ES)
