President Jokowi Receives Buton Traditional Title
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (09/27) expressed appreciation to the Sultanate of Buton for preserving and fostering local wisdom amid modernization and the rush toward foreign culture.
“I note that customs, traditions, local wisdom, and etiquette are still preserved and even fostered in the Buton Sultanate in Southeast Sulawesi,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at the conferment of traditional honorary title of the Sultanate of Buton at Baruga Keraton Sultanate of Buton, Baubau city, Southeast Sulawesi province.
The Head of State also expressed gratitude to Sultan of Buton La Ode Muhammad Izat Manarfa for the title.
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to His Majesty Sultan of Buton La Ode Muhammad Izat Manarfa and all traditional institutions of the Sultanate of Buton who have bestowed the title on me, namely La Ode Muhammad Lakina Bhawaangi yi Nusantara,” he remarked.
Also joining the President during the event were Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah, Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia, Governor of Southeast Sulawesi Ali Mazi, and Mayor of Baubau City La Ode Ahmad Monianse.
