President Jokowi Receives Dayak Lundayeh Traditional Title
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has received a traditional title from traditional leaders of Dayak Lundayeh people in North Kalimantan province.
The traditional title granted to the President is Derayeh Acang Aco, meaning a great leader who is able to exert all his energies and thoughts for the progress, welfare, and prosperity of the people.
The granting of the title was part of the President’s working visit to the province on Thursday (19/12), with the granting ceremony being held in the North Kalimantan border town of Nunukan.
During the ceremony, the President symbolically cut rattan to enter Dayak Lundayeh customary territory. Furthermore, procession of customary title ceremony began by having the President wear its custom attributes such as a traditional hat called sigar, a talun vest made of tree bark skins, a necklace made of beads, bracelets, a traditional sling bag, and a traditional sword called mandau/pelepet.
The customary leaders then handed over a decree on the President’s traditional title as well as the aspirations of the Dayak Lundayeh people for him. The Arang Parisanang traditional dance was also presented as part of the procession of the ceremony.
On that occasion, the President expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the title granted to him.
“This is an honor for me, as the first President of Indonesia to be granted the title by Dayak Lundayeh people in Krayan District,” the President said.
According to the President, the customary title will also motivate him to continue to develop border regions.
“Indeed, it encourages me to further develop border regions,” he added. (BPMI Secretariat / ES)
