President Jokowi Receives Sports Minister

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (11/01) received reports from Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali on agenda done by the Ministry including the commemoration of Youth Pledge Day in the New Capital of Nusantara (IKN) and preparation of Papua as a sports province.

The Minister said that he encouraged Papua as a sports province since a research from Cendrawasih University reported that the National Games (PON) has improved the sense of nationalism of Papuans.

Zainudin also told the President about the upcoming extraordinary congress (KLB) to be held by the Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI). He underscored that the Government will not intervene with the congress.

On that occasion, the Minister deliver a report to President Jokowi on Indonesia’s readiness to host the U-20 World Cup. According to the Minister, the President wanted to ensure the readiness of the venues to be used in the U-20 World Cup.

“The President asked about the readiness of venues that shortly will be renovated since the FIFA required renovation of the main venue and training fields, a minor one, not major,” he stated. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RAS/MUR)
