President Jokowi Receives U-16 National Soccer Team
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (08/17) received the national Under-16 (U-16) soccer team who won the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-16 Championship on Friday (08/12).
President Jokowi welcomed the national team and their coach Bima Sakti upon their arrival at Merdeka Palace at 09.30 Western Indonesian time.
The President told the U-16 team to maintain their best performance and to improve it as they enter the next age group.
“You must maintain your performance. Do not let it drop. Usually it falls when [athletes] enter U-23 [team]. You must be consistent,” he said while promising them to find a place for the U-16 national team to train.
“We will find you a good training camp,” he said.
In the meantime, U-16 national soccer team coach Bima Sakti expressed gratitude for the support and invitation of President Jokowi to the U-16 national team.
According to Bima, the trophy that the U-16 national team won is a gift to Indonesia.
“We have shown the trophy to the President. This is a gift to Indonesia that is celebrating Independence Day today,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (DH/MUR)
