President Jokowi Receives Visit from Chinese Vice President Han Zheng

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo received a visit paid by Vice President of the People’s Republic of China Han Zheng at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Saturday (10/19). The Chinese Vice President became the last state guest received by President Jokowi as his leadership was soon coming to an end.

Vice President Han Zheng arrived at 19.00 and was welcomed by President Jokowi at the veranda of Merdeka Palace. Afterwards, they both proceeded to the Credential Room to have a photo session, and then the Chinese Vice President signed the state guest book.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, in his press statement after accompanying President Jokowi, said that the meeting between President Jokowi and Vice President Han Zheng ran smoothly in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The Chinese Vice President extended a warm greeting from President Xi Jinping to President Jokowi.

“President Joko Widodo expressed his gratitude for the cooperation that has been established, and so did President Xi Jinping as conveyed by Vice President Han Zheng,” the Coordinating Minister said.

According to the Coordinating Minister, President Jokowi stated his confidence that the relations between Indonesia and China will continue to flourish, and that the relations between both countries under the leadership of president-elect Prabowo Subianto will be strengthened.

“President Prabowo will surely understand how important China is to Indonesia and the relations of both countries,” he added.

The meeting marked a moment of President Jokowi that had been prioritizing active diplomacy and constructive international relations in a decade of his leadership. The visit also concluded the state guests’ visit received by President Jokowi and marked the final curtain of Indonesia’s diplomacy under the leadership of President Jokowi.
