President Jokowi Receives Visit from Muhammadiyah, Aisyiyah Chairpersons
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo expressed appreciation for the active role of the second largest Islamic organization Muhammadiyah in post-COVID 19 pandemic national economic recovery and its commitment to continue to develop Indonesia through various sectors.
“Mr. President conveys his high appreciation for Muhammadiyah’s efforts,” Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nasir told reporters after meeting with President Jokowi at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Friday (09/16).
According to Haedar, Muhammadiyah will continue to expand its movement to develop education, health, social services, and the economy across the country. “We even open Muhammadiyah college in Malaysia and Australia,” he added.
At the meeting, Haedar also invited President Jokowi in-person to attend and officially open the 48th National Congress (muktamar) of Muhammadiyah and its women’s wing, Aisyiyah at Manahan Stadium, Surakarta, on November 18-20 this year.
“Alhamdulillah, the President conveys his willingness,” he said, asserting that the organization has prepared a number of discussions at the congress, ranging from progressive Islam as a peaceful, uniting, and advance view for the life of the nation, to strategic issues of the people and the state.
In the meantime, Aisyiyah Chairperson Siti Noordjanah Djohantini said that the congress, which would be attended by 3,500 participants from the organization entity, would also present guidelines on progressive Islamic women.
“We continue to encourage the people, especially women, to come forward and take action so Indonesia can become a strong, dignified, and just country, based on the values of religious teachings of Prophet Muhammad PBUH,” Siti conclusively added. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (GWH/HD/MUR)
