President Jokowi Releases Large Vessel at Tanjung Priok Port

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, Tuesday (15/5) inspected port infrastructure and officially released large vessel carrying export commodities from Indonesia to target countries.

The CMA CGM Tage vessel that serves direct call route will depart from JICT Terminal of Tanjung Priok Port Jakarta to final destination of Los Angeles, USA, carrying 4,300 TEUs of footwear, garment products, electronic products and many other products.

President Jokowi in his remarks explained that the release of the large vessel shows good and resilient economic progress. The President added that the direct call export is very efficient and involves large volume of goods.

“It will significantly reduce the logistics costs,” the President said.

Managing Director of State-owned port operator (Pelindo) said that each container saves about 300 US dollars while President Jokowi expressed his hope that the vessel will improve the competitiveness of domestic products comparing to products from other countries and will increase Indonesian export volume.

President Jokowi also asserted that the export to the United States highlighted Indonesia’s strategic role in geo-economic of Indo-Pacific region.

“As the largest country in Southeast Asia, Indonesia continuously move to make the Indo-Pacific region as one of the main sources of economic growth and the center of world trade and industry,” the President explained, adding that the Government will increase export volume in order to improve economic growth of Indonesia.

On the occasion President Jokowi, accompanied by Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita, Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto, and Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno, pressed siren button symbolizing official release of 2018 Direct Call Indonesian Export at Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) of Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta.
