President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has once again reminded the nation to follow health protocols as the key to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“I notice the campaign to wearing a face mask has not been widely promoted, both in the media and on the ground, including by distributing free masks,” the President said on a Limited Meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (24/8).

According to the President, public discipline is the key to curb the virus transmission before the vaccine is available.

“We have to promote the campaign to wear a face mask since it can strengthen the confidence of the community, the business world and the market regarding the Government’s seriousness in handling the pandemic,” said the President.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also ordered that every statement related to COVID-19 should be coordinated with the COVID-19 Task Force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito to avoid miscommunication and misinformation in the public.

The Head of State went on to explain that the Government is working hard to secure vaccine supply both from domestic pharmacy companies and abroad.

“Earlier, I received a report from Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State-Owned Enterprises that Indonesia has sealed a commitment to get 290 million dosage of vaccine until 2021. That is a very large number given that other countries may only get one or two million dosage,” the President said, while expressing hope that the measure will boost confidence in the business sector and investment.  (FID / EN)
