President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has revoked remission for I Nyoman Susrama, who was convicted of murdering Radar Bali journalist AA Gde Bagus Narendra Prabangsa.

President Jokowi confirmed the decision after attending the 2019 National Press Day in Surabaya and during the “Festival Terampil 2019” at Kota Kasablanka, Jakarta, Saturday (9/2).

The President said that after getting input from communities and journalists on the remission to I Nyoman Susrama, he immediately instructed the Director General of Corrections and Minister of Law and Human Rights to review the remission.

“I have decided (to revoke the remission) and I have signed the paperwork,” the President said.

For the record, I Nyoman Susrama was sentenced to life after judges found him guilty for killing Prabangsa in 2009.

The panel of judges believed that the motivation of the murder was a news report in daily Radar Bali written by Prabangsa on 3, 8 and 9, December 2008 on the alleged corruption of Bangli Education Department. (UN/JAY/ES)
