Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung believes that the meeting between President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo with former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would become a ‘positive signal’ for the international world. “We respect each other and we hope that this meeting also becomes a positive signal for the international world,” Pramono said to reporters after a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (9/3).

Pramono added that Indonesia is becoming a hope for the international world, evidenced seen from many requests to visit Indonesia.  This month alone, Pramono said, in addition to receiving a visit from Saudi Arabia’s King Salman, Indonesia also hosts the IORA Summit.

By the end of this month, he added, President Jokowi will also receive a working visit from the French President, followed by receiving leaders from Qatar in the near future. In addition, several leaders from other countries have requested to visit Indonesia.

This, Pramono added, shows that from international perspective, Indonesia’s economic and political stability is positive. “This is what we have to maintain – that (in) democracy, there are differences (that) we cannot deny. But this is good for us,” Pramono said, adding that the meeting between President Jokowi and SBY is one of the meetings with a number of prominent figures openly done by the President.

“We hope (the meeting) gives a positive signal for anyone. Somehow, President Jokowi and SBY – who led the country for 10 years – have works that are related from their respective administrations,” he said.

Commenting on the allegation that there is a political motive, Pramono said that President Jokowi and SBY used the meeting by having tea together. “There is no accusation. They only had smiles and tea time,” Pramono said.

As previously reported, President Jokowi, on Thursday (9/3) at the Merdeka Palace received former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. President Jokowi added that the meeting has long been planned. “Today, alhamdulillah, when he has time, I also have time. So we made an appointment and met,” the President said in his press statement after the meeting.

President Jokowi added that during the meeting, both of them discussed many issues, be it related to political issues and national economy issues. “That was a discussion so we discussed many things,” the President said. (RMI/ES)  (EP/YM/Naster)
