President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo sended off santri (islamic boarding school students) fun walk, to commemorate the 2018 National Santri Day in Sidoarjo Regency Square, East Java province, Sunday (28/10).

On the occasion, President Jokowi was wearing a white santri-like shirt combined with sarong and black peci (rimless cap) accompanied by First Lady Ibu Iriana. They arrived at the location at 06:15 a.m. Western Indonesian Time.

After delivering his remarks, President Jokowi raised the flag by saying Bismillahirrahmanirrahim (in the name of God the most merciful and gracious) to mark the start of the santri fun walk.

The starting point of the walk is from the front of the Regency Hall to Delta Sidoarjo Stadium. In the stadium, the santri are scheduled to attend Istighosah Kubro (big mass prayer) organized by the East Java Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board (PWNU).

Also attending the event were Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) KH. Ma’ruf Amin, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Research, Education and Higher Education M. Nasir, Minister of Manpower Hanif Dhakiri, Governor of East Java Soekarwo, and Regent of Sidoarjo Saiful Ilah. (UN/RAH/JAY/ES)
