President Jokowi Signs Regulation on Indonesia, Singapore FIR Adjustment

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has signed Presidential Regulation on Ratification of the Flight Information Region (FIR) Agreement between Indonesia and Singapore.

“The agreement is a step forward for international recognition of Indonesia’s air space,” President Jokowi said in his statement as quoted on Cabinet Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Thursday (09/08).

The President expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in taking over the management of air space over the Riau and Natuna Islands from Singapore. For the record, Indonesia’s air space over the Islands of Riau and Natuna has been managed by Singapore since 1946.

“This increases ​​Jakarta’s FIR area to 249,575 square kilometers,” President Jokowi said.

According to the President, the agreement also aims to increase aviation safety and security and increases non-tax state revenues. “The agreement can serve as a momentum for modernization of aviation navigation equipment and the development of Indonesian human capital,” he added.

For the record, President Jokowi signed Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 109 of 2022 on Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Singapore on Boundary Adjustment between Flight Information Region Jakarta and Flight Information Region Singapore and was promulgated on September 5, 2022.
