President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo admitted he was surprised at the information that PT Pertamina (State-Owned Energy Enterprise) has never conducted exploration in large scale since the 1970s to date.

“What is going on?” President Jokowi asked at the opening of the 42nd Indonesia Petroleum Association (IPA) Convention and Exhibition at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, Wednesday (2/5).

A year ago, the President instructed Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources to revoke regulations related to oil and gas industry.

Currently, President Jokowi continued, the Minister has revoked 186 complicated regulations, 14 of which were regulations on upstream business.

“We hope by simplifying (regulations), we can attract more investors to invest in  Indonesia,” President Jokowi added.

The President reminded, in a number of Ministries, our regulations are still complicated. Therefore, it is important to revoke or simplify theprocedures.

“We should simplify our procedures in oil and gas sector so it will no longer be complicated,” said the President.

President Jokowi also asked—state-owned enterprises as well as businesspeople— to report and convey any complicated regulation to related Ministers or even directly to him.

“Related to gross split, we need to discuss the problems and how to solve it. This month, we will launch Online Single Submission system for business permit. With this system, permitting process will be done in one place and can be finished in hours.” President Jokowi explained.

Featuring a theme “Driving Indonesia’s Oil & Gas Competitiveness”, this event was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, President of IPA, and participants of IPA convention. (FID / AGG / ES) (STU/MMB/Naster)
