President Jokowi gives remarks in the inauguration of TNI and Polri Young Officers in Magelang, Central Java.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said we could not deny that sometimes we still heard news about the conflict between Indonesian National Defence Force (TNI) and National Police (Polri). “In the future, there should be no more conflict between TNI and Polri,” President stated firmly.

“We should stop and end it. TNI and Polri are the front-line guardians in protecting the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI),” said Jokowi when he gave remarks in front of 720 young officers in the ceremony of Prasetya Perwira TNI and Polri of 2016 in Sapta Marga Building, TNI Military Academy, Magelang, Central Java on Tuesday (26/7).

President stated TNI and Polri must work together and unite for the sake of our nation, country and people. “Eliminate sectoral ego, improve the spirit of korsa (the corps spirit of togetherness), solidarity, and the unity among TNI, Polri and the people”.

President reminded the young officers to be responsive, sensitive and keep improving the quality of their work performance professionally. Any critics from the public about the quality of work performance of TNI and Polri should be considered as an input to improve their performance.

“Don’t stop improving the quality of the institution, so that TNI and Polri will be able to adjust to the strategic environmental development in the national, regional, and global level,” said President.

President Jokowi also mentioned 2 challenges faced by the officers. The domestic challenges to be faced are, among others, the efforts to diminish the values of Pancasila, violence and anarchy in the name of religion, terrorism, drugs trafficking, smuggling, and illegal trade.

Outside the country, there are many issues like global competition, border areas issues, conflicts between countries, intrastate conflicts, asymmetric war, energy-reserves war, the weaponry competition by countries having great military forces, ISIS, and foreign terrorist fighters. All those issues have any direct or indirect effects on our country, Indonesia.

“I ask all the young officers to perform the duties, mandates, and services professionally, proportionally, and based on the procedures by upholding the laws and regulations, codes of ethics of the profession, and human rights” said President Jokowi.

The ceremony of Prasetya Perwira Remaja (Praspa) TNI-Polri of 2016 was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, TNI Chief Commander General Gatot Nurmantyo, National Police Chief Tito Karnavian, Defense Minister Ryarmizad Ryacudu, and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo.
