During an inspection of COVID-19 vaccination at Sunda Kelapa Port, North Jakarta, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has urged that the vaccination program must be implemented with more coverage.

“Today, approximately 1,000 people get vaccinated. We hope the vaccination will be rolled out continually to more vaccine recipients,” President Jokowi said in his remarks during the inspection, Thursday (10/6).

According to the President, the vaccination held at Sunda Kelapa Port was targeting port workers and marine communities around the port.

“Those people have a high level of interaction, including crew members and loading and unloading workers who directly interact with crew members from other islands,” he added.

The Head of State also expressed hope that the vaccination will protect port workers and the community around the port as well as curb the transmission rate.

“Through this vaccination, workers at Sunda Kelapa Port will be protected from the spread of COVID-19,” he said.

For the record, the port is considered as an area with a high level of people and goods interaction and mobility that come from various regions, be it domestic and international. For that reason, during a Limited Meeting on Monday (24/5), the President has ordered the relevant ranks to prioritize the implementation of vaccination in the region.

“According to the President’s directives, (those working at) ships and ports are prioritized for vaccination,” Coordinating Ministers for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartato, who also serves as Chairperson of COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery Committee, said. (FID/UN) (RIF/LW)
