President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has urged the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to have the same vision to support Government programs and policies and maintain a favorable situation in the society.

“In this Leaders’ Meeting of the TNI-Polri, I want them to share the same vision. There must be clear division of their duties,” the President said in his press statement following the 2023 TNI and Polri Leaders’ Meeting at The Sultan Hotel in Jakarta, Wednesday (02/08).

In line with the theme adopted for the meeting, namely “TNI and Polri Support Increased Productivity for Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Transformation,” the President also gave directions so that the industry downstreaming process runs smoothly.

“The duties of the TNI and Polri are to ensure that industrialization and downstreaming processes run well on the ground and there are no disturbances,” he said.

The President further said that some of the problems with downstreaming process are illegal mining and exports, which can reduce state revenue.

“Yes, I said earlier that illegal exports and mining still occur, so they disrupt the industrialization and downstreaming process. It is the duty of the TNI and Polri to solve this issue,” he said.

Meanwhile, with regard to the political year, the President underscored that the TNI and Polri should not be involved in practical politics and should work together to maintain a favorable situation in the society.

“I suppose the TNI and Polri already know what to do. The most important thing is to maintain a favorable situation in the political year and not to get involved in practical politics,” he said. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT) (SF/DH)
