President Jokowi Tells Mining Firms to Take Part in Environmental Preservation
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has expressed appreciation for environmental preservation carried out by Brazil-based nickel mining giant PT Vale Indonesia.
The President also called on other mining companies to follow suit.
“I will immediately order all mining companies across the country to use the project an example,” the President said during the inauguration of Sawerigading Wallacea Biodiversity Park in East Luwu regency, South Sulawesi province, Thursday (03/30).
According to the President, the company has carried out the mining land preservation measures quite well so it could protect the environment against destruction.
“I also checked the way they prepare seeds to rehabilitate and reclaim ex-mining lands. It is impressive,” he said.
The President also visited arboretums or a place where various seeds are planted and bred for scientific research and praised efforts made by the company for disseminating the importance of protecting the environment to children.
“This is crucial as our children and grandchildren will also use mines in perhaps other forms of mining,” he remarked. (RSF/UN) (RIF/EP)
