The COVID-19 pandemic will change the people’s lives and the people must adapt to “a new normal”, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“The new normal must not be filled with pessimism or fear. We must improve our productivity with optimism and make various prevention efforts,” the President said in his online remarks on Friday (15/5).

According to the President, “coexisting with COVID-19” does not mean that the people should give up; instead, they should adapt to the new normal by complying with health protocols.

“We continue the fight against COVID-19 by prioritizing and observing strict health protocols,” he added.

President Jokowi also stated that the Government is continuously monitoring the indicators and facts on the ground. “I emphasize that the public safety is still be our priority,” he said.

The Head of State also stressed that the virus is dangerous, but it can be prevented by keeping a safe distance, washing hands after doing activities, and wearing face masks.

The people, he added, must also come to terms with COVID-19 because the latest information from WHO (World Health Organization) revealed that even though the curve has started to flatten, the virus will not disappear.

“Once again, the important thing is that the people must stay productive and be safe from the COVID-19,” the President said. (UN/EN)
