Teachers should motivate students to keep their spirit alive to study amid the pandemic, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

“The most important thing is how to motivate students to remain enthusiastic to learn during the pandemic,” the President said during a video call with Rika Susi Waty, a teacher from West Sumatra capital of Padang on Friday (11/9).

On that occasion, the President also asked her several questions regarding teaching and learning activities during the pandemic.

Rika, who teaches mathematic at 7 Padang Junior High State School, told the President that the online teaching and learning process had run quite well despite several difficulties.

Some of those difficulties, she said, include lack of devices to support online learning as well as difficulties for teacher to monitor the students closely as they are not meeting face-to-face.

However, Rika said that the school had provided assistance for the students by giving permission to use school facilities, such as computers, for online learning.

President Jokowi also explained that face-to-face learning is still not possible to carry out as the number of COVID-19 cases is still quite high and the Government would like to prioritize the students’ health.

Therefore, President Jokowi told Rika and teachers throughout the country to continue maintain enthusiasm to assist all students. (BPMI/EN)
