President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (10/16) extended appreciation to Chinese businessperson for the investment and contribution in Indonesia’s development.

“In 2013, China was ranked 12th as foreign direct investment contributor in Indonesia but ranked second last year,” President Jokowi said at the Indonesia-China Business Forum at the China World Hotel, Beijing, PRC.

According to the President, Chinese entrepreneurs is fast and precise when they place their investment in Indonesia.

“I am sure that in the next year or two, China can take the first place as foreign direct investment contributor in Indonesia,” he added.

Indonesia, President Jokowi continued, is currently focusing on downstreaming industries, ranging from nickel, copper, to tin and building an integrated e-vehicle ecosystem to become an important part of the global supply chain.

“Such efforts require transfer of high technology and investment, especially when combined with the use of green energy sources—which are abundant in Indonesia—to produce green products and create a green economic ecosystem,” he said, adding that Indonesia also boasts great potential for new renewable energy, reaching 3,600 gigawatts from solar power and hydro energy.

The Head of State also reminded the forum that Indonesia is developing the country’s new capital of Nusantara and it is estimated that the construction of basic infrastructure and government centers will be completed next year.

President Jokowi also stated that to date there are 21 investors from home and abroad with a total value of US$ 2 billion who have joined the Nusantara Capital development and he invited the forum to also invest in Indonesia.

“We have prepared incentives and, of course, maintained socio-political stability. Please don’t worry about the upcoming general election in 2024 for Indonesia has the experience organizing it five times. So, you don’t need to worry. You just need to hurry,” he remarked.
