: President Joko Widodo delivers press statement on Monday (30/11) regarding murder case in Sigi, Central Sulawesi province

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has strongly condemned the terrorist attack and the killing in the Central Sulawesi regency of Sigi.

According to the President, terrorism has no place in the country.

“I strongly condemn the inhumane and uncivilized acts which have claimed four lives in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi,” the President said on Monday (30/11) from the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

The barbaric act, he said, was clearly aimed at creating provocation and terror in the community and destroying the nation’s unity and harmony.

The Head of State also expressed deep condolences for the families of the victims and promised that the Government will provide compensation for them.

The President has ordered Chief of the Indonesian National Police to thoroughly investigate the terrorist network down to its roots.

“I have ordered the National Police Chief to thoroughly investigate the perpetrators’ networks and dismantle the network to its roots,” said the President, adding he has also ordered the National Police Chief and the Indonesia National Defense Forces (TNI) Commander to raise awareness.

“Once again, let me stress that there is no room for terrorism in our country,” he said.

President Jokowi also called on the public to stay calm and maintain unity while remain vigilant against terrorism.

For the record, a terrorist attack occurred in Sigi Regency, killing four people and burned down seven houses.

Based on statement from witnesses, the perpetrators were members of Islamic terror group East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT). The National Police personnel are currently pursuing them. (FID/UN) (EST/EP)
