President Jokowi: Tiu Suntuk Dam to Irrigate 1,900 Ha Agricultural Land

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated the Tiu Suntuk Dam, in West Sumbawa regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province, Thursday (05/02).

The President believes that the infrastructure which is built with a budget allocation of Rp1.4 trillion can support agricultural productivity, raw water supply, as well as reduce flooding around West Sumbawa.

“Its capacity is 60.8 million cubic meters. It will hold water as much as its capacity. It’s a very large amount, which benefits are providing irrigation for1,900 hectares, 680 liters per second of raw water, and reducing flood around West Sumbawa,” said the President.

He also emphasized that water is very important for people’s daily lives.

“Once again, water is very important for our lives, especially in NTB, both for agriculture, raw water and drinking water,” he said.

Therefore, the President continued, the Government continues to strive to meet the water needs of the community, one of which is through the construction of dams which are carried out in various regions in the country.

“In the past 10 years, the Government has built seven dams in NTB, which made the province have the biggest number of dams constructed, and the Tiu Suntuk Dam is one of the big dams in the province,” he said. (KS/UN) (EST/LW)
