President Jokowi: TNI’s Weaponry System Exhibition as Form of Budget Transparency to Public

During the commemoration of the 76th Anniversary of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Vice President Ma’ruf Amin inspected the TNI’s primary weaponry system (alutsista) showcased at the Presidential Palace compound, Jakarta.

“On the 76th anniversary of TNI, we showcased our primary weaponry system which also served as a way to show the budget transparency at purchasing military weaponry system to the public,” President Jokowi said in his remarks.

The President expressed hope that the public can know more about TNI’s primary weaponry system from the exhibition including weaponry that is unfamiliar to the public, for instance Artillery Saturation Rocket System (Astros).

“We hope the public will learn that Indonesia has Astros. There are 56 units with rockets having firing range of 39 km. You can also ask the TNI Commander, Army Chief, Navy Chief, and Air Force Chief about other weaponry system. This weaponry system is considerably new, for instance Astros that was purchased in 2014,” he explained.

In addition to Astros system, the exhibition also featured a number of tactical vehicles, such as 2 units of Sherpa Light Scout, 35 units of Anoa armored personnel carrier, 8 units of Indonesia Light Strike Vehicle armored personnel carrier, and 2 units of Rantis Bushmaster.  (PRESIDENTIAL SECRETARIAT/UN)(RAS/MUR)
