On the second day of working visit to Papua province Thursday (11/23), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is slated to attend the 2023 Cenderawasih Bay Sail Peak event held in the Semau Beach Area of Biak Numfor regency, Papua province.

The President is also scheduled to inspect and inaugurate the modern fisherman’s village located in the regency.

In the afternoon, President Jokowi and his entourage will head to Siboru Airport in Fakfak regency, West Papua province, for the airport’s inauguration.

The Head of State is set to proceed with his journey using the Indonesian National Air Force’s Super Puma helicopter to the National Strategic Project (PSN) Pupuk Fakfak Industrial Area in Arguni district, Fakfak Regency, for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Fakfak Pupuk Industrial Area.

Afterwards, the President would continue his agenda by attending the 2023 Cenderawasih Bay Sail Peak event.

According to the President, the event that is incorporated into the 2023 National Tourism Calendar, will promote Indonesia’s maritime, tourism, and socio-cultural potential, with a special emphasis on the land of Papua.

“As Indonesia’s gateway to the Pacific region, Papua boasts abundant natural resources, and Cendrawasih Bay stands out as an area with the richest marine ecosystem in the country, a paradise for coral reefs and marine life,” he said.

Through this event, the President expressed hope that Papuan culture, dance, music, and local products can be introduced at both the national and global levels.

“This will boost tourist numbers, inspire event organizers, and attract investors’ interest to contribute to the advancement of the land of Papua.” he added.

On that occasion, the President encouraged further enhancements to the event, involving more people and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Papua.

“I urge this outstanding event be continued, fostering creativity, innovation, and community participation, with the active involvement of our MSMEs, ensuring that the people in Papua can reap the benefits even after the conclusion of this event,” the President remarked.

For the record, the 2023 Cenderawasih Bay Sail Peak event is scheduled to take place from November 21 to November 27, 2023. The event will feature various maritime activities, MSME exhibitions, arts and culture performances, culinary markets, and entertainment. (KS/UN) (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RIF/MUR)
