President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (11/09) headed to Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh to attend the 40th and the 41st ASEAN Summit. Accompanied by the First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi and his entourage, President Jokowi took off from I Gusti Ngurah Rai international airport in Bali at around 17.00 Central Indonesian Time.

“I am slated to attend the 40th and the 41st ASEAN Summit and other related summits until November 13, 2022. There will be more than 20 meetings that I have to attend,” the President said.

The Head of State went on to say that one of the main issues that will be a concern for Indonesia is Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023. Through its chairmanship, Indonesia will adopt the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”.

“It is our hope that ASEAN will remain vital and relevant (ASEAN matters). It is also our hope that Southeast Asia will still be an epicentrum of growth. Indeed, it is not an easy task considering that global challenges will be enormous in 2023. Moreover, ASEAN also faces internal issue related to Myanmar’s situation,” President Jokowi added.

Furthermore, after attending a number of summits in Phnom Penh in Cambodia, President Jokowi, the First Lady, and his entourage will head back to Indonesia in November 13, 2022 to attend a series of G20 Summit in Bali. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (AP/LW)
