President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (05/25) morning departed for Bali from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten to attend the 7th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) 2022.

Upon his arrival at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Badung regency, Bali, President Jokowi is slated to visit Kreneng Market in Denpasar to distribute a number of social assistances for the beneficiary people and traders.

From the market, the Head of State will head to Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) to attend the opening ceremony of the 7th GPDRR. The President is also scheduled to hold a meeting with Vice President of Zambia W.K. Mutale Nalumango.

For the record, the GPDRR is the largest multi-stakeholder meeting—ranging from the governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academics, to business people—organized by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

“The GPDRR meeting in Indonesia is the first time in Asia,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L.P. Marsudi said after the inspection at the preparations for the meeting at BNDCC, Tuesday (05/24).

The 2022 GPDRR with the theme “From Risk to Resilience” has a total of 6,000 registered participants from 183 countries. The meeting will be carried out in a hybrid manner, a combination of an on-site and a virtual meeting, with more than 80 percent of participants will attend in-person at the venue.

“The hosting of the GPDRR shows the world’s trust in Indonesia’s leadership as a champion of disaster issues. Second, the meeting will be used for exchange experiences and best practice capacity building in dealing with disasters that do not happen just once, but from time to time,” Retno remarked.

Also accompanying President Jokowi during his working visit were First Lady Ibu Iriana and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/GPRDRR National Committee/UN) (GWH/EP)
