President Jokowi to Attend APEC High Summit, Uncertain to Attend G-20 High Summit

In the next few days, there are three world forums that invite President Joko Widodo (Jokowi); they are the ASEAN High Summit, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) High Summit, and the G-20 High Summit.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said that President Jokowi has confirmed to attend two events; they are ASEAN High Summit and APEC High Summit. While for the G-20 Forum, the attendance of President Jokowi has not been confirmed yet.

“So far, he has been confirmed for APEC. The Foreign Minister of China will explain the preparations conducted by them (Government of China) as the host, to President Jokowi,” Retno said it when she was visited by the Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi, in Pancasila Building, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Central Jakarta, on Monday (11/3).

The same thing was delivered by the Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi, who made sure that President Jokowi would attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum in Beijing, China, on November 10-11, 2014.

“My current visit is to harmonize several things regarding the meeting between both state leaders (Indonesia-China) in the next few days, when President Jokowi attend APEC,” Yi said it before meeting President Jokowi.

According to him, President Jokowi will also meet some high officials including President of China, Xi Jinping, on his visit.

”President Jokowi and President Xi Jinping will have a bilateral meeting about the cooperation of both countries amid the APEC,” Yi uttered.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi added that Indonesia have learned all procedures prepared by the committees of APEC High Summit in Beijing.

Regarding President Jokowi who would speak in CEO Summit and meet President Xi Jinping, the government would follow the instruction of committees.

“So, this is an introduction visit and as a foreign minister from the country that will be the host of APEC, he explained the preparations,” Retno explained about the visit of China’s Foreign Minister.

Not Sure about G-20

President Jokowi has been confirmed to attend ASEAN and APEC High Summits, but it is different with G-20 High Summit that will be held in Brisbane, Australia, on November 15-16, 2014.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said that the attendance of President Jokowi has not been confirmed yet.

“Hopefully, he would like to attend it,” Retno said it when she was asked about the confirmation of Jokowi in G-20 Forum.

To all the journalists who met her at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, on Monday (11/3), Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi did not give the clear answer about the participation in that prestigious event.

“Let’s wait about it,” the former Indonesian ambassador of the Netherlands uttered it.

Previously, Jokowi admitted that he has not made his decision about it, when he met Prime Minister of Australia Tony Abbot in the night of his inauguration as President, on Monday (10/20). (Humas Kemlu/ES)
