President Jokowi to Attend ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (03/04) headed to Melbourne, Australia to attend the 2024 ASEAN-Australia Special Summit. The Summit that is held to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations will focus on ASEAN-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership.

“Adopting the theme “Partnership for the Future”, the Summit will discuss how to optimize ASEAN-Australia comprehensive and strategic partnership in order to realize a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region,” he said in a press statement before leaving the country.

He went on to say that Indonesia will push for the strengthening of cooperation in various sectors, including economic integration, energy transition, and digital transformation.

“I will take this opportunity to continue pushing for the strengthening of economic integration, energy transition, and digital transformation, as well as constantly encouraging the advancement of collaboration and respect for international law, including on the Palestinian issue,” he added.

After attending the Summit, President Jokowi is slated to have bilateral meetings with several leaders, such as with the Prime Minister of Australia, Prime Minister of New Zealand, and Prime Minister of Cambodia.

The President and the entourage will return to Indonesia on Wednesday, March 6. (DND/UN) (RAS/MMB)
