President Jokowi to Attend G7 Summit in Japan
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi and a limited delegate Friday (05/19). headed to Japan’s Hiroshima to, among others, attend the G7 Summit or the G7 Outreach Summit 2023.
“Today, the First lady and I with a limited delegate will head to Hiroshima, Japan, following the invitation extended by President of the G7 Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida,” President Jokowi told the press at Halim Perdanakusuma military airbase in East Jakarta shortly before boarding the plane.
According to the President, the G7 meeting is set to discuss a number of global issues, including climate change and food, energy, adding that Indonesia wants to contribute in those sectors.
“Indonesia will give a voice to the global south, and basically developing countries need to be heard, not only the developed and big ones. So, developing countries should be heard in this forum. That is what we want,” the President said, adding that several points produced during the recent 42nd ASEAN Summit will be raised by the Jokowi, including on Myanmar.
On the sideline of the G7 Summit, President Jokowi is also scheduled to have bilateral meetings with a number of leaders and to meet several business actors in a business forum.
President Jokowi and the entourage are scheduled to return to Indonesia on Sunday (05/21). (DND/UN)(AW/EP)
