President Jokowi to Inaugurate Infrastructure Projects in Lampung
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo embarked on a working visit to Lampung province on Monday (08/26).
The President was slated to inaugurate Margatiga Dam, a drinking water supply system (SPAM) in Bandar Lampung city and the newly-revamped Pasir Gintung market.
During the inauguration of Margatiga Dam, President Jokowi said that water management is currently being the focus of the Government.
“In the future, water will become an extremely pivotal element in our life. Thus, water management will be the focus of the Government,” he said.
He went on to say that the water management aimed to optimize water usage to meet the needs of the people.
“First, to meet the needs of our daily life. Second, for irrigation to water rice fields. Third, to reduce floods in the flood-prone areas,” he added.
He also explained that the Margatiga Dam, which has been constructed since 2017 with a budget of Rp846 billion, has a large capacity and inundation area.
“Alhamdulillah, today the Dam can start its operation. The Dam, which spent a budget of Rp846 billion, has an inundation area of 2,313 hectares and a capacity of 42 million cubic meters of water. This is very huge,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, the President expressed hope that the 44th government-built Dam can provide real benefit to the people and increase agricultural productivity.
“I wish the productivity of the farmers can increase significantly,” he remarked. (TGH/DNS) (EST/MMB)
