President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is scheduled to undertake an official visit to neighboring Malaysia and Singapore from Thursday until Friday (8-9/8) this week.

Southeast Asia Director of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Denny Abdi has reported that the President will hold a bilateral talk with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad during the visit.

“This visit is a reciprocal visit after Mahathir made his first bilateral visit to Indonesia in June 2018, one month after he was appointed Malaysian Prime Minister,” Denny told reporters on Tuesday (6/8).

Denny added that the President and his Malaysian counterpart are also expected to raise various issues, including access to education for children of Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia, progress of land and sea border negotiations, and other issues concerning bilateral relations between the two countries.

In the meantime, Acting Spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Teuku Faizasyah stated that President Jokowi would be in Singapore to attend the 54th Singapore National Day.

“The Singapore National Day will also be attended by Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad and Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hassanal Bolkiah,” Faizasyah said. (ANT/ES)
