Ahead of the ASEAN Summit in Bangkok, Thailand on 22-23 June, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has announced intention to invite all ASEAN countries to unite in anticipation of the US and China trade war to maintain economic stability in the region.

“It is very important to unite ASEAN countries,” President Jokowi said on his remarks at Limited Cabinet Meeting on the Preparation of the President’s Working Visit to the ASEAN Summit and G20 Summit at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (19/6).

At the ASEAN Summit, the President is also expected to encourage discussion on combating marine debris in the region and peace acceleration in Rakhine State, Myanmar.

President Jokowi also said he is going to raise global economic and financial issues, specifically on trade and investment at the G-20 Summit in Japan’s Osaka on 28-29 June.

Furthermore, the President said he would also raise the issue of innovation steps on developing digital economy and artificial intelligence as well as addressing the gap in the quality of labor infrastructure and the global empowerment of women.

President Jokowi also urged his Cabinet to use the momentum of his attendance in the both summits as well as possible so that Indonesia could seize various opportunities, especially in an effort to strengthen the country’s economy and national interests. (FID/HIM/EN/JAY/ES)
